GoGirlGo

The goal of the GoGirlGo Project is to maximize the use of sport as an educational intervention and social asset in order to enhance the wellness of girls as they navigate between childhood and early womanhood. The project is dedicated to the development and funding of girl's sports programs that combine athletic skill instruction and programming with the delivery of educational information aimed at reducing risk behaviors that threaten the health and social advancement of girls aged 10 to 14 years.

The GoGirlGo Project educational curriculum and materials are available free of charge from the Women's Sports Foundation. The educational materials come in the form of a kit that includes a playbook and journal for each girl, adult leader guides, and free one-year memberships to the Women's Sports Foundation. The curriculum uses personal stories of champion female athletes like Mia Hamm, Tamika Catchings, and Vonetta Flowers sharing their experiences with important issues such as self-esteem, body image, and drugs. There is also expert informaiton about each topic.

To find out more about the project, email ncsc@nassausports.org or call (516) 365-9625. Organizations, agencies, and schools that agree to participate in the GoGirlGo Project educational curriculum become eligible to apply to the GoGirlGo Project grant program, which provides grants to support girl's sports programming.
