Whether it's
a 6-year old learning to dribble a basketball, or a professional athlete dazzling
thousands of fans, sports is in America's blood, touching virtually everyone.
It is a truly profound force that defines who we are, and roots us in a sense
of place.
In Nassau County, only one organization is dedicated to advancing
the development of youth, amateur and professional sports at every level of proficiency:
the not-for-profit Nassau County Sports Commission.
In its short life, the
Commission has already brought to Nassau County a National Championship in gymnastics,
spearheaded the relocation efforts of the prestigious Women's Sports Foundation
to Eisenhower Park, coordinated a regional women's triathlon, created a state
of the art web site, developed a youth awards program, organized an annual golf
tournament, created an in-line skating event, hosted an equestrian festival, created
the Let's Do It! program for disadvantaged youth, assisted in the coordination
of the Special Olympics, and worked in conjunction with the Women's Sports Foundation
to bring their GoGirlGo! program to Nassau County.
In fact, since its inception
in 1992, the Commission has brought to Nassau County more than 50 sporting events
and programs. Your contribution to the Nassau County Sports Commission, will enrich
our quality of life, enhance the economy, and aid in the development of events,
programs, and facilities for Nassau County.
With your help, Nassau County
will continue to stand as a national role model for sports as a constructive force
in our lives.
