Historical Info
The Nassau County Sports Commission "Salute to Champions" Awards Dinner was established in 1995. Each spring, the Awards Dinner honors Nassau County's outstanding student athletes, coaches, differently-abled athletes, teams and professional athletes with roots in Nassau County.
The Awards Dinner is highlighted by the annual Nassau County Sports Hall of Fame induction honoring our most prestigious and talented sports personalities including elite athletes, coaches and sports broadcasters. With numerous talented individuals excelling both on and off the field, the NCSC honors their tremendous accomplishments.
The Awards Dinner also features the presentation of our two national awards, the John Mackey Award (Outstanding NCAA Division I Tight End) and Dick Schaap Award (Outstanding Sports Journalism). Both awards are a tribute to legendary sports personalities that come from Nassau County and serve to highlight Nassau County to a national audience.
