An innovative children's sports program pioneered by the Nassau County Sports Commission in 1999, initially funded by the Sanjay Kumar Foundation and Computer Associates International, Inc., to provide children from lower socio-economic backgrounds with the opportunity to learn and participate in sports. Since inception, the program has grown both in size and scope, evolving into total sports program that serves the entire community, young and old alike. This umbrella program features: LET'S DO IT! SPECIAL EVENTS & PROJECTS o Development of new countywide sports initiatives and events including fitness trails in Eisenhower park to be installed Spring 2007 o Brochures on childhood obesity, the perils of performance enhancing drugs and other pertinent sports/health issues to be distributed in 2007 o Equipment granting program- Roller Hockey equipment donated to Inwood Park in 2007 o Includes affiliate programs with other organizations, such as after-school programs and the Women's Sports Foundation's "Go Girl Go!" program o Lectures by industry leaders o Sports and coaching clinics The Let's Do It! programs now service a broad spectrum of participants including differently-abled, seniors and mainstream athletes of all ages, while continuing to service the at-risk and economically disadvantaged youth of Nassau County. Corporate and individual donations are extremely important to the Commission's ability to offer and expand the full range of programs to improve lives through sports.
