Although
the day began with a petulant thunderstorm that threatened to cancel the event,
The Newsday Kids Day event was still a success. The event held at the TD Waterhouse
Cup on Tuesday, August 20, 2002 in Commack even featured a surprise appearance
by the sun for the afternoon tennis matches. Over
100 children from 4 organizations joined the NCSC's Let's Do It! program to attend
the event. The Newsday Kids Day featured many activities including a "Fun Zone"
with contests, interactive tennis games and instructional drills as well as appearances
by Cartoon Network characters like Scooby Doo and other mascots. Each child entering
the event received a goody bag filled with snacks, coupons and gifts. Newsday
also supplied each child with a T-shirt representing the day's event. After
enjoying the many activities, everyone participating in the Let's Do It! program
was treated to lunch in the food court. The children were given a choice of hot
dog or chicken fingers along with chips or fries and a drink. All the children
were then invited to stay and watch a little tennis before it was time head on
home. The NCSC would like
to thank Newsday for donating tickets to the event and TD Waterhouse and the Hamlet
Golf and Country Club, particularly the efforts of Keri Mutscheller and her excellent
staff, for helping to make this day the huge success that it was. |
