For
the past eight weeks, over 60 children participated in a roller hockey program
at Sportime Bethpage, which was sponsored by the Nassau County Sports Commission
(NCSC). These youths hail from different towns in Nassau County, including Port
Washington, Manhasset/Great Neck, Roosevelt and Westbury. Participants were taught
the basic fundamentals of roller hockey: proper skating, stick handling, passing
the puck, shooting the puck, and rules and regulations. For some participants,
it is their first time on roller skates. The instructors have years of experience
in teaching children and playing roller hockey. The program is part of NCSC's
Let's Do It! Program, made possible through the efforts of the Sanjay Kumar Foundation
and Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA). The Let's Do It! Program is
a sports participation program facilitating 8 to 12 week sessions, exposing children
of all backgrounds to various non-traditional sports.
