This
summer, over 150 children from area youth organizations participated in a five-week
swim program sponsored by the Nassau County Sports Commission (NCSC). Participating
organizations included Roosevelt P.A.L., Soul Harvest Ministries, Westbury Church,
Memorial Presbyterian Church, Westbury P.A.L., New Cassel/Westbury Youth Services
and Manhasset/Great Neck E.O.C. These children received instruction from certified
lifeguards who taught the basic fundamentals of swimming. Some students were returning
to the program, while others were new.
The
two-hour session consisted of one-hour instructional swim and one-hour free swim.
Children were separated into different skill levels with two instructors per group.
During the free swim, the children were able to practice what they learned. For
some of these children, it was the first time learning to swim. With such an extremely
hot summer, the children got to cool off and swim. At the end of the program,
the children had the opportunity to enjoy the water slide at the pool. The
Nassau County Sports Commission would like to thank the Nassau County Department
of Recreation & Parks, the lifeguards and the youth organizations for make this
program a success. |
