2008 JOHN MACKEY AWARD RECIPIENT - CHASE COFFMAN OF MISSOURI

Manhasset, N.Y. (December 11, 2008) – The Nassau County Sports Commission (NCSC) has announced Chase Coffman of Missouri as the 2008 John Mackey Award recipient. The Big 12 conference senior recorded 83 receptions for 920 yards and 10 touchdowns while leading Missouri to the 2008 Valero Alamo Bowl.

Coffman was named a Consensus First Team All-American and First Team All Big 12 in 2008. He has totaled 240 receptions for 2,592 receiving yards and 30 touchdowns in his career with Missouri which places him first all-time in NCAA Div. I-A (FBS) history in career receptions by a tight end. On the academic side, he is scheduled to graduate ahead of time completing his studies in 3 ½ years.

The John Mackey Award is given to the collegiate tight end who best exemplifies the play, sportsmanship, academics, and community values of NFL Hall of Fame Tight End John Mackey. The 2008 John Mackey Award recipient was determined by confidential balloting of the John Mackey Selection Committee. “The Mackey” will be presented at the Nassau County Sports Commission Annual Awards Dinner on April 28, 2008.

The Nassau County Sports Commission is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that promotes physical fitness and healthy lifestyle for Nassau County residents and is responsible for the administration of the John Mackey Award and the John Mackey Award Selection Committee.
