CIRCUSFIT COMING TO NASSAU COUNTY
Walnut Elementary School in Uniondale Named Contest Winner to Host Exclusive CircusFit Event at their school on March 17, 2009
(Manhasset, NY - March 16, 2009) Walnut Street Elementary School in Uniondale has been announced as the winner of the 2009 Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® CircusFit contest, as announced last Tuesday by the Nassau County Sports Commission. The Walnut Street Elementary school was randomly chosen out of 75 local schools that entered the contest and will host an exclusive CircusFit themed program for approximately 300 students from grades 3-5 on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 10 am. Community leaders and local government representatives will be on hand as the school will host a fun array of exercises and activities incorporating clowns and other circus elements into the fitness program. The Walnut Street Elementary school is located at 1270 Walnut Street Uniondale, NY 11553.
In an effort to combat childhood obesity and general inactivity, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® has created a new and innovative program entitled CircusFit. This program provides educators, youth group leaders and parents with an easy-to-follow, flexible structure of lessons and activities to promote health and physical fitness. Each CircusFit lesson takes about 20 minutes and lesson tools can be made with readily available materials, such as plastic drink bottles or jump ropes. Once youth discover the fundamentals of fitness, they are likely to get active and develop a genuine fitness habit.
Through a partnership, the Nassau County Sports Commission will be working with Ringling Bros. in an effort to implement this new and innovative program within our region. As a local non-profit sports commission, it is part of our mission to keep the community active and advocate fitness and a healthy lifestyle, specifically towards youth.
The Nassau County Sports Commission is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to creating a healthy sports environment that advances the health and well being of Nassau County residents, primarily youth.
