CANTIAGUE PARK ICE SKATING RINK WRAPS UP 2008-09 FRIDAY “THEME NIGHTS” WITH SPRING SCHEDULE

Cantiague Park’s large indoor ice skating rink will wrap up its popular 2008-2009 “Theme Nights” program this spring with an exciting series of events each Friday from 9 to 11 p.m. between April and June 12, announced Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi.

Each week on Fridays, when the rink is active with teenagers, skaters will be able to enjoy a new theme with related pop music. Participants can also join in the fun by dressing in a costume appropriate to the theme. The themes for April through June 2009 are as follows: April 3, Pajama Night; April 10, ’80s Night; April 17, Easter Bunny; April 24, Western Night; May 1, Broadway Night; May 8, Disney Night; May 15, ’50s Night; May 22, Mets/Yankees Night; May 29, Hat Night; June 5, Under the Sea; June 12, Hawaiian Night.

One of Nassau County’s best-known indoor ice-skating rinks and the onetime practice center for the New York Islanders, Cantiague Park’s rink has been called “Best of Long Island” by News 12, a selection made on the basis of viewer nominations and surveys. The rink is open seven days a week (closed New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day) from September through May. In addition to public skating sessions, the rink has hockey programs, group and private lessons, and figure-skating clubs. Birthday parties may also be arranged during public sessions. Centrally located in Hicksville, just off the Northern State Parkway and east of the Wantagh State Parkway on West John Street, Cantiague Park provides a range of activities spread over 127 acres, including an executive-level nine-hole, par-30 golf course and driving range; tennis, handball and basketball courts; a new multipurpose turf field and additional athletic fields; a large playground; picnic areas; and an outdoor swimming pool complex.
